CSR and YOU

CSR and you.

November 16th, 2011

“You will find, as you look back on your life, that the moments that stand out are the moments when you have done things for others” – Henry Drummond. So, how do we, the students, relate? How many of us give back to our schools? Volunteer? Or participate in any other type of social initiative where we help others?

It’s very convenient for us to use excuses saying that you have too many projects due, or that you don’t have the financial ability to contribute in a meaningful way. We assure ourselves that once we get a full-time job, we would definitely start contributing to the community in some way. But the reality is, working life will take up just as much time. The economics concept of scarcity is always prevalent, and it’s a scarcity of time we all face.

The time for action isn’t 5 years down the road when you’re comfortably settled in a job. A person shows what he is by what he does with what he has. The time for action is now. It’s as simple as volunteering one day a month or it could be devoting a few hours of your day to give back to the community. Finding such opportunities is easy too with websites such as “charityvilliage.com” or “idealist.com”, to name a few. So, pick a cause that you are passionate about and get going because it all starts with you!
